Rosemary is a top note in perfumery, hence its clear, clean and bright aroma. It is a very pervasive oil, so should be used with care. It is used in some men’s colognes and only a wee bit is needed. Since it has the tendency to overpower, a little bit goes a long way. Try using it with other oils that have lots of character like ginger, lime, grapefruit, peppermint and basil.
Of course, it has been used for 1000’s of years as a flavoring agent in many types of cooking and beverages. It is quite good for skin and hair care in small amounts, and can be helpful for cleansing, toning and clearing troubled skin. It can also be used for cleaning your home or office. Use with lemon, eucalyptus and clove for a sparkling clean! It has been used to assist with fogginess, and can aid in memory retention...so it is a fantastic tonic with a little lemon for a mid-afternoon pick me up. In hair care products it has been used to stimulate the scalp, and can be invigorating and astringent.
Can be used with frankincense, ginger and peppermint for an extremely invigorating massage when your muscles and joints need a little extra TLC. For most people this combo should not be used at night, unless you want to be up with the owls!
Safety and contra-indications: Rosemary has been shown to be neurotoxic, depending on the camphor content. Never use undiluted, and do not use if pregnant. Keep away from mucous membranes.
Child Safety: Overall, rosemary is wise to avoid with babies and children. Not that it is unsafe, it is just a very strong and stimulating oil, and should never be used on children’s or babies faces. There are so many other delightful oils for children like lavender, orange, chamomile, sandalwood and rose.
Suggested use: Make a cologne with rosemary, lime, ginger, vetiver, bergamot and black pepper for a man or a woman. Traditional fragrance roles have been changing for the last few years, now it is common for women to wear colognes that have ingredients that were once in the ‘only men’ realm. And come on ladies, we all have worn our man’s cologne from time to time...or maybe even more often! Try using a grape vodka like Ciroc, as your base.
Take care: Do not apply without a carrier such as jojoba, bath salts or any unscented product like lotion or shampoo. Do not use with infants and children without instruction, and if so at a greatly diluted ratio of .5% or less. The recommendation for topical use is from 3 to 5 % for most people. However, take care if you are elderly or are ill. If you have a reaction to it, stop using and immediately contact a medical professional. Not for internal use unless under the guidelines of an aromatherapist. Remember that essential oils and absolutes are 75 to 100 times stronger than the plant they come from, so they are very different than an herbal or other natural preparation.
Comes in 10ml amber glass essential oil bottle. European Dropper Cap included.
