- Properties: Organic oregano essential oil is very potent because it is highly concentrated and should always be diluted. This wonderful oil has powerful antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. When properly diluted it can assist in reducing pain, swelling, and discomfort or, when diffused, boosts the immune system. Oregano oil is antimicrobial, antifungal and antiviral and therefore is known to be great for preventing and/or reducing bacteria and infections -- especially during cold and flu season. Oregano essential oil can aid digestion, detoxifies, increases energy levels, and has phenomenal expectorant properties that make it useful for relieving congestion. Oregano is an essential herb in Italian cuisine and is most associated with pizza. The flavor and aroma of oregano leaves are far greater when this herb is dried than when its leaves are fresh, which is somewhat unusual for any herb.
- Suggested Uses / Recipes: Oregano oil can be added to homemade household cleaners to be used as a disinfectant.
- Blends Well With: lavender essential oil, bergamot essential oil, rosemary essential oil, and roman chamomile essential oil.
- Safety and contraindications: Oregano oil is a potent skin and mucous membrane irritant, therefore, we recommend diluting it to a maximum concentration of 1% for topical applications. It is not intended for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or if you have hypersensitive, diseased, or damaged the skin. Not intended for internal use.
- Child Safety: Oregano essential oil is not intended for use on children under 2 years old. Heavily dilute to a 1% ratio with a carrier oil for children over 2 years old.
