How to Make Your Own All-Natural Dish Soap Using Essential Oils Posted on 08 Sep 13:49
If you've taken a look at the label on store-bought dish soap lately you might have noticed a few ingredients that seem better suited for paint remover than dish soap. For instance, sodium lauryl sulfate is known to cause skin and eye irritation and is hazardous to the environment (it’s used in insecticides for a reason). Tetrasodium EDTA is a preservative created from formaldehyde that allows cleaning agents to clean deeper; it can also penetrate your skin’s barrier and enter your bloodstream. Even something on the label as seemingly-innocuous as “fragrance” can refer to a score of chemicals that companies are not obligated to identify.
These are just a few of the nasty chemicals most commercially-available dish soaps contain. To avoid exposure to possibly harmful ingredients, one alternative is to purchase all-natural soap for a high price. Another alternative is to make your own dish soap. Using essential oils and a few other commonly-found ingredients, making dish soap is fun, affordable, and - best of all - easy!
WHAT’S IN YOUR ESSENTIAL OILS?
Before using essential oils in the recipes below, it’s important to note that all essential oils are not of the same quality. Those that are labeled as “fragrance” grade are not 100% pure essential oils and may contain some of the ingredients found in the products you’re trying to avoid. Make sure that you are using only the most potent essential oils, distilled directly from plant sources, by looking for labels such as “pure essential oil”, “premium essential oil”, or “therapeutic-grade essential oil.”
Healing Solutions offers only the purest essential oils at prices you can afford. Learn more about our testing practices here.
